School Improvement Plan

Mission Statement:
Livorno Unit School, in partnership with parents and the community, will teach students the skills necessary for their continued success as life-long learners and productive citizens in an ever-changing world.

Target Goals:

1. All students will improve their reading comprehension across grade levels K-8.
   We define reading comprehension as vocabualary and retelling/summarizing.
2. All students will improve thining skills across grade levels K-8.
   Evaluating and extending meaning.

Interventions:

Instructional Intervention –Goal 1
Teachers will use a variety of vocabulary development and summarizing strategies to assist students in improvement in reading comprehension.

Instructional Intervention – Goal 2
Teachers will use a variety of teaching strategies to enhance students’ thinking skills specific to evaluating and extending meaning.

Communication Intervention
Teachers will develop and implement a variety of activities to inform parents and community of SIP efforts and progress to include:

• Publish school improvement minutes of meetings to Outlook
• Prepare a school Intra-net SIP link
• Open CSP meetings to public and include stakeholders on CSP committees
• Announce CSP meetings on Community Bulletin Boards

SHC Partnership Intervention
Teachers will develop and implement a variety of activities to involve parents and community in students’ learning process to include:

• Young Authors Showcase
• Elementary Sports Day
• Band/choir concerts for community
• Regularly review CSP goals at SAC meetings
• Regularly review CSP initiatives at PTSO meetings
• Drama productions
• After school enrichment--Invite community members to special events, reviews, games
• Utilize finishing school where needed
• Encourage/involve D.A.R.E. counselor in CSP goals
• Involve ES/MS Student Council in CSP
• Peer reading mentors
• Peer Mediation (MS)

Technology Intervention
Teachers will develop further means of infusing technology into instruction to prepare their students for the future to include:

• Utilize audio recording
• Utilize video production and broadcast journalism
• Involve students in digital music composition/note reading and printing.
• Utilize digital research
• Multimedia preparation and presentation across curriculum (including Smartboard in each classroom)
• Integration of digital microscopes into science curriculum for research and lab reports
• Development of vocabulary and comprehension skills through interpretation of READ 180 for qualified students
• Incorporation of textbook audio recording for differentiation of instruction
• Incorporation of personal fitness/physiological monitoring devices
• Use of art software to incorporate and enhance project production
